Formerly the CHICKADEE, name removed so you can name her yourself. Faithful bus, easy to drive, fun to travel in. The sound of the Detroit is an attention grabber. Reliable, we worked for an RV tour company, caring for guest RV’s. Safe and secure traveler. She knows her way around the country.
Things That Aren’t Working
Air step failed on our last trip, either the air cylinder or the control valve.
Passenger side windshield cracked in the viewing area.
Driver side windshield cracked, upper corner, not in the viewing area.
Needs a caster shim and front end alignment.
Gas cylinders on all storage bays are weak and in need of replacement.
Lock on the main awning is broken.
Passenger side rear leveling jack has weak springs and does not fully retract. New springs are included.
The seller bought the bus in 2010, with 43,000 miles on her. She had sat idle for an unknown period of time. We know nothing about her prior history or owners. He has driven her for over 70,000 miles.
When he bought her, she had exhaust leaks and dripped fluids from a variety of places. He has replaced gaskets, hoses, and fittings so that currently she does not drip anywhere. He replaced the gasket under one exhaust manifold, but had to replace the other manifold in addition to its gasket.
When he bought her, the transmission did not shift correctly, and continued to get worse over time. The transmission was totally rebuilt in 2014, by a company specializing in heavy duty Allison transmissions.
When he bought her, the rear differential made noise that also got worse over time. A totally rebuilt “pumpkin” was installed in 2014.
The small awnings have been replaced by new awnings sewn from Sunbrella fabric. Matching fabric to make the large awning is included with the bus. (A commercial duty sewing machine is available for separate purchase, if someone wants to sew their own awning). The large awning is in fair condition.
A new toilet has been installed, still wrapped in plastic. The water line to the new toilet is installed, but, it has not been connected.
The water system was “winterized” in the fall of 2018 using RV water system antifreeze. It has not been flushed since then. Numerous water connections remain loosely fitted. Care will be needed to tighten connections when the system is put back into service.
